Fair Grounds coffee review. The place is definitely cozy, relaxing atmosphere, on the second floor which makes it even cozier! But there are some things I’ve noticed, for example, The dirty dishes bin is tucked on a lower shelf, I’d have to pull it out, and then place dishes inside…inconvenient. Even though they have a wide syrup selection, the flavors are artificial, so you’re basically putting chemicals in your body, The latte is ok, not anything to get excited about, nor the pastries, for they’re also not made in house or naturally. But there is history to this place, which is why it’s popular. If there’s anything I would change, I’d like them to make some natural in house syrups, or switch to a natural syrup brand like 1886, and do research and purchase natural pastries to sell to customers. Disappointingly I will not be returning to Fair Grounds. Show less

Me and my fiance really liked this coffee shop. The coffee was tasty and the atmosphere was welcoming. However, when we left, some man with short-man syndrome harassed me about my service animal that clearly had a service animal leash and bandana. My animal was friendly and sitting quietly by us the whole time and not bothering anyone. He claimed that the health department would have problems with him being in the upstairs area. Im not sure how this guy is associated with the shop, but he should've been a little more friendly and not so negative towards us. Show less

Found this place when all the coffee shops near us were closed. This place is awesome! I got the iced coconut mocha with oat milk and was so delicious we had to come back for another! They have games to play so my husband and I played scrabble and guess who. It’s also open pretty late for a coffee shop so it’s a perfect place to catch up on school/work at any time of the day. Whenever we’re in Norfolk this will definitely be our go-to for coffee. We bought some whole bean coffee and espresso beans for the road :) Next door wasn’t opened both times we got coffee however I thought the shop was pretty cool and they have free tampons for anyone in need. A very hipster spot with atmosphere that is very small but cute, food that’s just okay, coffee that is great (which is unfortunate), but staff and service that is immature and lacks important self-awareness. It took a very, very, very long time to get two breakfast sandwiches. Priced at over nine dollars you would think it would be something to write home about, and it wasn’t. But the biggest letdown here wasn’t the food. It was a staff that is so pretentious that they are unable to be polite. They spent most of their time dancing and giggling, while customers waited in line and for their items, and then they apologized for “being too loud”. My husband walked up to ask about our food (which I’m pretty sure was forgotten about) and one of the staff members shrieked and said “oh my God what happened to your face? Are you having a reaction???” And feigned surprise before she went back to whatever she was doing. He walked back when he got the food and I turned him toward me to check his face as I thought something must be there in order to shriek like that. There was nothing, he looked completely normal and has a very normal complexion. I looked over and the staff was again laughing. It’s a perfect place if you don’t value Customer Service, timely service, or an atmosphere where you aren’t purposely embarrassed for simply inquiring about your order. No surprise college students enjoy the place but anyone older- I can’t imagine why they’d come. Show less

A very hipster spot with atmosphere that is very small but cute, food that’s just okay, coffee that is great (which is unfortunate), but staff and service that is immature and lacks important self-awareness. There are a lot of little nooks to chill at and get some work done, and a parking lot which is convenient. A very hipster spot with atmosphere that is very small but cute, food that’s just okay, coffee that is great (which is unfortunate), but staff and service that is immature and lacks important self-awareness. It took a very, very, very long time to get two breakfast sandwiches. Priced at over nine dollars you would think it would be something to write home about, and it wasn’t. But the biggest letdown here wasn’t the food. It was a staff that is so pretentious that they are unable to be polite. They spent most of their time dancing and giggling, while customers waited in line and for their items, and then they apologized for “being too loud”. My husband walked up to ask about our food (which I’m pretty sure was forgotten about) and one of the staff members shrieked and said “oh my God what happened to your face? Are you having a reaction???” And feigned surprise before she went back to whatever she was doing. He walked back when he got the food and I turned him toward me to check his face as I thought something must be there in order to shriek like that. There was nothing, he looked completely normal and has a very normal complexion. I looked over and the staff was again laughing. It’s a perfect place if you don’t value Customer Service, timely service, or an atmosphere where you aren’t purposely embarrassed for simply inquiring about your order. No surprise college students enjoy the place but anyone older- I can’t imagine why they’d come. Show less

Fair Grounds coffee review. The place is definitely cozy, relaxing atmosphere, on the second floor which makes it even cozier! But there are some things I’ve noticed, for example, The dirty dishes bin is tucked on a lower shelf, I’d have to pull it out, and then place dishes inside…inconvenient. Even though they have a wide syrup selection, the flavors are artificial, so you’re basically putting chemicals in your body, The latte is ok, not anything to get excited about, nor the pastries, for they’re also not made in house or naturally. But there is history to this place, which is why it’s popular. If there’s anything I would change, I’d like them to make some natural in house syrups, or switch to a natural syrup brand like 1886, and do research and purchase natural pastries to sell to customers. Disappointingly I will not be returning to Fair Grounds. Show less

They have games to play so my husband and I played scrabble and guess who. It’s also open pretty late for a coffee shop so it’s a perfect place to catch up on school/work at any time of the day.
