It is a great place to hang out with friends and play some games of mahjong and other board games. It is in a great location, where you can get food and boba from neighboring businesses! The staff are friendly, and the space is clean. There are various cute signs inside. Multiple televisions showing mahjong competitions, music videos, and so forth. I started coming to Setting Sun a few months ago, not knowing much about Mahjong beyond its name. From the moment I walked in, the owner James made me feel welcome and encouraged me to learn. He’s not only knowledgeable about Riichi Mahjong but also incredibly patient and passionate about teaching. Thanks to his guidance, I’ve gone from a complete beginner to someone who genuinely looks forward to playing every week. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, making it easy to learn without pressure. There’s a great mix of regulars and newcomers, and everyone is supportive. The tables and equipment are high-quality, and you can tell that a lot of care has gone into making this a comfortable and inviting space. Riichi mahjong has become my new favorite hobby, and I owe that entirely to this place. If you’re even a little curious about the game, this is the perfect place to start. On top of mahjong being such a fun game for a beginner to learn and this place dedicating time to teach newbies like me, it really hits all the criteria for a great hangout spot in the area: really cool owner, kind community, other board games/video games outside of mahjong, yummy snacks and great location. It's also pretty fun to see expert level players get competitive at other tables. There's always something to do with them scheduling events open to the public to join in on. If you're wondering if you should give it a try, I'd say take the leap. The owner, James, will walk you through it and be your biggest hype man once you start getting the game.
