They have private booths in the back that you can rent for a session with your friends, or simply play games away from the more open space in the front. The selection of board games on the wall is endless! There is sure one to delight the whole family. They also offer coffee and snacks at super reasonable prices. They also graciously allow you to have food delivered for mealtimes. Ms. Darby is super friendly, knowledgeable, involved, and makes sure all her guests have a great time. The rest of the staff are equally as awesome! They are open until midnight. The bathrooms are clean and in good repair. Show less

Darby's Dungeon is a hip, trendy place to satisfy your board game and RPG needs. The place is spacious, and the atmosphere is relaxed. They have private booths in the back that you can rent for a session with your friends, or simply play games away from the more open space in the front. I recently visited Darby's Dungeon and it was truly a 10/10 experience! The staff is super friendly and inviting, treating you like family from the moment you walk in. They have an amazing selection of both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, and I would highly recommend trying a lavender latte with light lavender flavoring if you're a coffee lover, and for tea lovers, their earl grey flavor is a must-try! The space is perfect for both big and small crowds, and they even accommodated our large group on the spot, which was amazing. However, if you have a group of six or more, it's best to call ahead to ensure you're set up properly. The selection of games they have is impressive, and our group had no trouble finding something to play. Although I do wish they had several more board games in their library, the games they did have were fantastic. Darby and Taylor took amazing care of us during our visit, and we felt like valued customers throughout our entire stay. The staff openly interacted with our group, with playful jabs and jokes, which added to the overall experience. It was clear that they love what they do and are passionate about making sure their customers have a great time. In addition to the great drinks and games, they also have an awesome choice of merchandise to browse and purchase. Overall, Darby's Dungeon is a great stop for geek group outings or for anyone looking for a fun and unique experience. There are two card and board cafes close to one another in Jacksonville: Darby's Dungeon and Java Game Haus. And for what it's worth, I think there's a lot to love about both! But if you'd ask me which one I'd choose between, I'd probably pick Darby's most of the time, and here's every reason why: * Better coffee with REAL latte art! * Better alcohol selection! * More private booths! * Better event pricing! * More involved with the community! * Close to some great restaurants! * Features older card boosters you often can't find anywhere else! * Opens earlier! *LGBTQ+ and lactose intolerant friendly! * It just feels closer-knit! The only reasons I'd think about not going to Darby's are if Darby's doesn't have any space or if I don't feel like ordering Italian/Mexican takeout (for which Java offers more entree foods), or if I'm really craving a Java Game Haus chocolate muffin. But even then, Darby's does a better lavender latte! It's just a great place to play! If all the reasons I listed before entice you, please pick this place for your next Magic the Gathering draft or next board game night. Show less

Board games, card games, RPG, or any table game! The place does not seem big but it has long tables and booths that can accommodate a lot of gamers. There are 6 booths that can sit (I think) 7 to 8 people each. They have different events every day. I'd recommend giving them a call for the latest info on the events. They also serve drinks! I had their hot chocolate with almond milk which was very good!! Darby and her husband runs this place. She is super friendly and very helpful. She enjoys running this place and seeing people have fun! We just started playing MTG in April 2024 and my son won his games in this tournament. I lost in my games but the main thing is we all had fun!! :) Will definitely be back! Show less

The staff do their absolute best to ensure that any guests are having a wonderful stay and, even when spread to their thinest, offer an experience unparalleled to other game and hobby stores. Any gripes I have would be that the store isn't fewer steps away from my home. Truly an experience I recommend to anyone with a few dollars and a free evening (or even just a free evening if you visit during their free community days!). My partner and I had a phenomenal time, enough so to visit a second time in the same 5 day vacation! I can't recommend Darby's enough; drop by, say hi, and have a wonderful time being a nerd!
